First Executive Council of 5G Deterministic Networking Alliance in 2020 Successfully Held

On January 9, 2020, the first executive council of the 5G deterministic networking alliance was successfully held in the Beijing Post and Telecommunications Publishing Building. The Council was chaired by the secretary-general of the alliance, Liu Qicheng, omnimedia editor-in-chief of the communications world. The alliance director unit, vice director unit, unit leader and the representatives of the expert committee attended the event.

Liu Qicheng, secretary-general of the alliance, made the opening remarks. He said that the meeting was held to summarize the work of the past year and set the development goals and strategies of the alliance for 2020 and formulate corresponding plans. According to Liu Qicheng, China has made great efforts to promote 5G development. The government, the three major operators, and device vendors all hope that 5G will have a substantial innovation and leap in the near future. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), by the end of 2019, more than 130,000 5G base stations have been constructed in China. Liu Qicheng said that 5G development will enter a period of all-round promotion and development this year. How to enable all industries through 5G is the direction and goal that the alliance needs to determine.

First, the alliance secretariat summarized and reported the work in 2019. The alliance was launched during the MWC Shanghai 2019. After half a year's operation, the alliance has more than 80 member organizations. The research direction includes five major industries, including multimedia, energy Internet, medical Internet, Internet of Vehicles (IoV), and industrial Internet. The alliance has 27 topics and is making good progress. All of them have achieved the phased goals. Through half-year operation, we have gradually identified the key requirements of the industry for 5G deterministic networking (5GDN), and effectively promoted the industry/group standards in multimedia, electricity, healthcare, and industrial fields, promoting 5G deployment in thousands of industries.

The meeting also focused on discussing and defining the overall objectives and plans of the alliance for the year 2020. Experts and representatives from China Mobile, China Unicom, Huawei, Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute, China Southern Power Grid, China Media Group, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Guangzhou Transportation Group, Tsinghua University, Shen Ji Intelligence, China Communications Industry Association, and Communications World held full discussions. At the meeting, the alliance organization construction, topic direction and planning, and industry showcase planning for 2020 were approved. It is worth mentioning that three important topics were added to the meeting: research on the path and schedule of 5G deterministic network industrialization, 5G slice service provisioning and MEC intelligent O&M, and 5G MEC open-source platform.

At the end of the meeting, Dai Jisheng, the president of the alliance, summarized the meeting. He said that DNA is a double helix long chain, one chain is a 5G deterministic network, and one chain is a multitude of industries. The two long chains generate rich links and are the key to enabling various industries and enabling thousands of industries. Dai Jisheng sincerely hopes that operators, industry customers, and ICT providers can work together to improve efficiency and reduce costs for a wide range of industries through 5G DN, so as to discover new scenarios, explore new industry space, and explore new business models for 5G.

As a platform for cooperation and promotion of 5G deterministic networks, the Alliance has been focusing on gathering resources from all parties in the industry, and jointly committed to 5G industry insights, 5G deterministic network requirements and architecture, standards, products, solutions, and application promotion. A good cooperation atmosphere and collaboration mechanism have been formed. In the future, the alliance will continue to leverage its advantages to bridge the 5GDN industry breakpoints and promote the prosperity of the 5G industry.
