China Southern Power Grid 5G Smart Grid (Phase 1)

Partners: China Mobile, China Southern Power Grid, Huawei, Guangdong Telecommunications Planning and Designing Institute, Beijing Sifang Automation

Case Overview: This is the National Development and Reform Commission 5G application demonstration project in 2018. It is also the industry's first 5G power slicing experimental network for commercial use. It is the first to complete E2E network slicing security isolation test and verification, and to incubate and implement the industry's first 5G slicing management platform and the industry's first 5G capability exposure service platform.

Case Description:

This is the National Development and Reform Commission 5G application demonstration project in 2018. It is also the industry's first 5G power slicing experimental network for commercial use. It is the first to complete E2E network slicing security isolation test and verification, and to incubate and implement the industry's first 5G slicing management platform and the industry's first 5G capability exposure service platform.

Based on key technologies such as smart network slicing, this project implements four core scenarios: high-security slicing, low latency for control, large bandwidth for inspection, and large connection for metering. This project closely meets industry requirements in terms of top-level design, international standards, key technologies, live network pilot, and service operation, and has ranked No.1 in the following six aspects: the 5G Smart Grid White Paper, field test of differential protection on the distribution network, E2E field test of SA slicing, 3GPP power requirement standard, PMU field test, and SA slicing operation management.

In October 2019, China Southern Power Grid, China Mobile, Guangdong Telecommunications Planning and Designing Institute, and Huawei jointly announced the "Application of 5G Communications Technology in Smart Grid" project, which won the first prize in the second "Blooming Cup" 5G application contest from 3,731 projects in China.
