2020 First Working Meeting of the 5GDNA Multimedia Group

Recently, the multimedia group work meeting of the 5G deterministic networking alliance was successfully held online. At this meeting, six topics of the five scenarios of the multimedia group in 2019 were summarized and shared, the work direction of the multimedia group in 2020 was fully discussed, and a consensus was reached on the objective.

Xu Bo, deputy leader of the multimedia group, chaired the meeting. Dr. Mei Jianping from CCTV, delivered speeches and briefly reviewed the topics and operation quality of the multimedia group, and proposed suggestions and strong support on the research direction and how to promote the commercial use of 5G this year.

In 2019, the multimedia group has established six topics. Currently, five topics have been initiated and progress has been made. For example, the 5G+4K/8K UHD demonstration project of the new national infrastructure has been successfully applied for. The industry showcases of sports live broadcast in Jinan Stadium and Shenzhen Airport AR advertising screen have been preliminarily established, phased achievements have been made in solution innovation POC tests in scenarios such as 5GDN+cloud gaming, VR, and CDN. China Sports Media CTO Liu Teng, Blaz marketing director Li Enxiang and Cyber Cloud CTO Ma Bin respectively shared their case studies and implementation experience in three application scenarios: stadium, AR ad screen, and cloud gaming. All attendees also discussed the key technologies of 5GDN slicing and MEC media processing in multimedia scenarios, ARM migration tool chain, and the open-source EdgeGallery community, which are of great significance to the promotion of the 5G multimedia industry.

The work conference was attended by more than 30 representatives from 25 organizations of the alliance's multimedia group, including CCTV, China Sports Media, Blaz, Cyber Cloud, 4K Garden, Letin VR, ChinaNet Center, China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, and Huawei, and new members such as Zcam, Dongyao, Huajiao TV, Huya TV, CAS-VISION and NetEase.

The 5G deterministic networking alliance multimedia group will always be committed to bridging the technical, business, and industry breakpoints. Through continuous and in-depth cooperation, key support technologies and solutions will be incubated based on typical application scenarios and network requirements in the multimedia industry, such as ultra-HD live broadcast, VR/AR, and cloud gaming. In addition, we will actively explore the 5G deterministic networking construction mode and business model for multimedia applications, drive the simultaneous optimization and implementation of 3GPP/CCSA related standards, and finally promote the development of the 5G+multimedia industry ecosystem.
